Former Dutch international Edwin van der Sar is in intensive care after a brain haemorrhage on Friday. His condition is “stable but worrying”, Ajax said on Saturday.
“Edwin van der Sar will remain in intensive care for the time being. His condition is stable but still worrying,” the Amsterdam club said in a statement.
Ajax, the club that represented the former goalkeeper and of which he was executive chairman (CEO) until last May, thanks on behalf of the family for the “numerous statements of support received”.
Edwin van der Sar, 52, was on holiday on the Croatian island of Hvar when he suffered a cerebral hemorrhage and was airlifted to a hospital in Split.
The former player of Juventus, Fulham and Manchester United had been CEO of the Dutch emblem since November 2014, which he also represented as a player, but his departure was announced at the end of May, by decision of the former guardian, although the functions will not stop until 1 August.
The 130-time international of the Netherlands has two Champions Leagues, a World Cup for clubs, a European Super Cup, a Europa League, four English competitions and many Dutch competitions.
