The Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina, number 76 in the world ranking, qualified on Tuesday for the semifinals of the Wimbledon tournament by beating the Polish Iga Swiatek, number one in the world, in three sets.
Svitolina, 28, won the first seed in the quarterfinals of the London tournament on grass, with partials of 7-5, 6-7 (5-7) and 6-2, after two hours and 41 minutes of play.
The Ukrainian, who repeats her presence in the Wimbledon semifinals in 2019, will face the Czech Marketa Vondrousova, 42nd in the WTA ranking, winner of today’s clash with the American Jessica Pegula, number four in the world.
