Spaniard Julen Lopetegui will no longer coach Wolverhampton from Tuesday, the English League football club announced via a statement on its official website.
The official termination of the contract linking the two sides takes place six days before the official debut of the Wolverhampton team in the current season against Manchester United in the first round of the Premier League.
The statement said that the Spanish coach and the club “acknowledged and accepted their differences on certain issues”, without giving further details about those differences.
However, if the English press is to be believed, the former FC Porto coach, who joined the England squad in November 2022, wanted to leave due to the lack of reinforcements in this transfer window.
“I wish Wolverhampton and everyone at the club the best of luck for the future and appreciate the opportunity I’ve been given to lead this wonderful club.”Lopetegui said in statements on Wolverhampton’s website.
‘Wolves’ is the English team with the most Portuguese players, no fewer than seven: goalkeeper José Sá, defenders Nélson Semedo and Toti Gomes, midfielder Matheus Nunes, and strikers Daniel Podence, Pedro Neto and Fábio Silva.
