Manager Gary O’Neil will guide Wolverhampton for the next three seasons, replacing Spaniard Julen Lopetegui, the Premier League club said in a statement on Wednesday.
“Wolves have appointed Gary O’Neil as the club’s new manager ahead of the start of the 2023/24 Premier League season. The highly regarded young manager moves to Molineux on a three-year contract after a successful season by AFC Bournemouth.”, marked the emblem on the outskirts of Birmingham, on the official website.
Gary O’Neil directed the cherries in 37 official matches last season, which culminated in their maintenance in the Premier League.
The 40-year-old English coach thus occupies the position left vacant by the former FC Porto helmsman, who left Wolves this Tuesday night, after nine months at the helm.
The official termination of the contract that bound both parties occurred six days before the official debut of the Wolverhampton team this season, against Manchester United, in the first round of the Premier League.
Wolverhampton is the English team with the most Portuguese players, no less than seven: goalkeeper José Sá, defenders Nélson Semedo and Toti Gomes, midfielder Matheus Nunes and forwards Daniel Podence, Pedro Neto and Fábio Silva.
