Venezuelan cyclist Leangel Linarez (Tavfer-Ovos Matinados-Mortágua) today won the second stage of the Volta a Portugal sprint, the second in a row, and took the lead in the individual general classification.
Linarez, who had already raised his arms on Thursday, defeated Spaniard Miguel Fernandez (Burgos-BH), second, and Czech Daniel Babor (Caja Rural-Seguros RGA), third, to win again after 4:16:32, needed to complete the 177.2 kilometers between Abrantes and Vila Franca de Xira.
The Venezuelan is the new leader in the general classification, due to the time bonuses awarded to the first to cross the finish line, with Babor seven seconds behind, in second place, and the previous leader, Rafael Reis (Glassdrive-Q8- Anicolo), at 10, in third place.
On Saturday, the third stage links Sines to Loulé in 191.8 kilometers, with three flying goals (Odemira, Ourique and Almodôvar) and two mountain counts of the fourth category (Pico do Mú and Cruz da Assumada), both already close to the finish.
