The Santa Casa de Lisboa ensures that the cut in support does not endanger the 2024 Olympic project

The Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa (SCML) assured this Wednesday that the ongoing review of its sponsorship plan for various institutions and entities, in particular sports federations and the Olympic Committee, “does not endanger the Olympic project for 2024”. .

In response to questions from Lusa, SCML highlighted that the review of its financial support policy extends to “different institutions and entities”, including the support of Jogos Santa Casa to national sports federations, the Portuguese Olympic Committee (COP) and to the Portuguese Federation. Paralympic Committee (CPP).

“At a time of great economic and social challenges, the intention is to create a more balanced and judicious association model in the financial support that the Jogos Santa Casa give to the national sport, that is, through the national federations, the COP and the CPP. , invaluable partners in the development of the mission of SMCL ”, he highlighted.

Santa Casa highlighted that it is going through a period of “economic tightness”, aggravated by the decrease in income from the Social Games and the increase in requests for social support.

For this reason, “it is carrying out a profound reassessment of its entire policy of financial alliances and sponsorships of external entities, in order to create more efficient and sustainable mechanisms.”

Several official sources confirmed to Lusa on Tuesday that the SCML warned several sports federations of the need to review the sponsorship plan, less than a year before the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, through letters signed by the provider, Ana Jorge , who took office on May 2.

Among the entities supported by Jogos Santa Casa, according to the list published on its website, in addition to the COP and the CPP, are the Portuguese Sports Confederation (CDP), horse riding, motorcycling, handball, athletics, canoeing, cycling, soccer, gymnastics, judo, swimming, skating, rowing, rugby, surfing, table tennis, triathlon, volleyball and sports for people with disabilities.
