Some say life goes round. And Spain’s Olga Carmona, player of the women’s national football team, experienced the best and worst in one day, this Sunday. The Real Madrid player scored the winning goal that gave Spain victory over England in the final of the Women’s World Cup, which took place in New Zealand.
Despite the party, the 23-year-old player received the news of her father’s death after the festivities. The story was released by the Spanish Federation, in a message that ends with: “Olga, you are the history of Spanish football.”
Carmona’s father passed away Saturday morning.
While celebrating the goal, Olga showed Carmona a shirt with a name – “Merchi” – which, it turned out, was intended for one of her best friends, whose mother has passed away in recent days.
