Former Portuguese Olympic swimmer Herlander Felga Ribeiro died Tuesday at the age of 80, the Portuguese Olympic Committee (COP) reported in a statement, without disclosing the cause of death.
“Herlander Felga Ribeiro was the first Portuguese swimmer to swim the 100-meter freestyle in less than a minute, having reached the mark of 59.60 seconds on August 6, 1960, repeating the feat in the 50-meter pool in 1963 (59 , 80 seconds) ”, signed the organization, on the official website on the Internet.
The former athlete participated in the 1960 Rome Olympic Games, in the 100-meter freestyle and 400-meter freestyle, and in Tokyo 1964, in the 100-meter freestyle.
