The Higher Sports Council of Spain has initiated the procedures to suspend Luis Rubiales, who this Friday refused to resign as president of the Spanish Football Federation after the controversial kiss to Jennifer Hermoso.
“We are going to act. We have activated all the mechanisms to take the appropriate measures,” said Víctor Francos, Secretary of State for Sports of Spain, quoted by Cadena Ser radio.
The government agency has already raised the case to the Administrative Court of Sport (TAD).
During a speech at the federation facilities this Friday, Rubiales considered that the kiss “was consented.”
The director also blamed “fake feminists” and said he would sue those who accused him of “sexual harassment.”
Since the incident, Rubiales has been the target of numerous criticisms from the most diverse sectors, from the head of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, to various public and political figures, including Jenni Hermoso herself, who, in a first phase, devalued the situation, but on Wednesday he turned to the Spanish soccer players union (FUTPRO) to request sanctions for Rubiales.
The Professional Women’s Soccer League (Liga F) also filed a complaint with the Higher Sports Council, requesting the disqualification of Luis Rubiales, for “dirty and embarrassing conduct.”
Likewise, FIFA opened a disciplinary investigation against the president of the RFEF, considering that the facts “may constitute a violation of sections 1 and 2 of article 13 of the disciplinary code” of the organization, alluding to the fact that the conduct could “harm the dignity or integrity” of a person by reason of their sex.
Rubiales’ gesture had enormous repercussions and other images appeared on social networks criticizing the leader, who, shortly before, still in the stands of the Sydney stadium, grabbed his genitals to celebrate the victory, a few meters from Queen Letizia and from her daughter.
