Pepa leaves Cruzeiro’s technical lead

The Portuguese Pepa left Tuesday to become coach of Cruzeiro, the club, which is twelfth in the Brazilian football championship, announced on the social network Twitter.

“Pepa is no longer the coach of Cruzeiro. Cruzeiro informs that after a meeting this morning between the football board and Pepa, the departure of the coach and his technical team was determined,” the Minas Gerais club said in a statement.

Pepa is temporarily replaced by Fernando Seabra and Vinícius Rovaris, and the new coach will be announced in the coming days.

After 21 rounds in the championship, Cruzeiro are in twelfth place, with 25 points, just four above the relegation zone.

The ‘fox’, as the club is known, has gone seven games without a win in the Brasileirão, with the 3-0 home defeat to Grêmio being Pepa’s last game.

This was Pepa’s second experience outside Portugal, following last season with Saudi side Al-Tai.

Earlier, the 42-year-old coach passed Moreirense, Tondela, Paços de Ferreira and Vitória de Guimarães, among others.
