Portuguese canoeist Fernando Pimenta was crowned ‘short race’ marathon specialty world champion on Thursday in Vejen, Denmark, reaffirming the title won in Ponte de Lima in 2022, with José Ramalho in fifth place.
Pimenta won the final with a time of 14:14.32 minutes, beating Dane Mads Pedersen by 1.53 seconds, who finished second for the third time in a row, while in third place was Norwegian Eivind Vold, champion of Europe, was already at 14.34. .
José Ramalho, 2021 champion, repeated the fifth place he had achieved in 2022, with a time of 14.31.39 minutes, 17.07 seconds behind Fernando Pimenta.
Pimenta now has four medals at the Marathon World Championships, two of them gold in the ‘short race’, bronze in 2012 in the same specialty and a title of World Champion in K2 with José Ramalho, achieved in 2022, a status that will defend on Sunday.
The Portuguese national team competes with Sérgio Maciel and Alfredo Faria, Francisco Santos under 23 and the juniors João Sousa, Francisco Batista and João Bento.
