Jorge Vilda says he was “unfairly” removed from the Spanish women’s team

Former Spanish women’s soccer coach Jorge Vilda considered this Tuesday that the dismissal imposed by the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) was unfair and stressed that he did not expect such a decision after the recent conquest of the world title.

“I didn’t expect it. It was unfair,” said the coach, who also held the role of sports director, to the Spanish television channel Cadena Ser, hours after being dismissed from the position of coach by the RFEF, who has now Pedro Rocha as president, due to the ‘Rubiales’ scandal.

It is about the behavior of Luís Rubiales in the final of the women’s World Cup, then president, and meanwhile suspended by FIFA, after having grabbed a player and kissed him without her consent, after having made inappropriate gestures when he was on the field. stand, during the match that led Spain to its first world title.

“I am the best I can be after being world champion 16 days ago, having renewed my contract 10 days ago for another four years with a higher salary, and today [terça-feira] being unfairly fired”, launched Jorge Vilda, revealing that in the meeting with Pedro Rocha they told him that the decision was made due to “structural changes”.

And he added: “After 17 years in women’s football, after everything I’ve achieved, and after giving my all as a federation worker, I have a clear conscience. I gave it my all.”

The former coach also confessed that this outcome was “not expected” and that he maintained the “illusion and hope” of being treated well, as he had always been up to now.

“I saw myself with the strength to compete in the League of Nations and in the Olympic Games,” he stressed, explaining the applause he dedicated to Luis Rubiales’ speech at the RFEF General Assembly on August 25, in which Rubiales said that I would not resign. of the position of president of the entity.

“I will never applaud something macho and I will never applaud something that goes against feminism, understanding it as a fight for equality and equity. The boss’s part was directed at me and he is making public that he values me,” he said. justified.

Vilda also stressed that “it’s really difficult, with 140 people applauding, to be the only one who doesn’t get up”, but that she reiterates her opinion that Rubiales’ performance during the World Cup final was “inadequate”.

Coach Montse Tomé is the new Spanish women’s soccer coach, being the first woman to hold this position in Spain, replacing Jorge Vilda.

The Asturian coach, who until now was Vilda’s assistant, was chosen within the “regeneration measures” announced this Friday by the new president of the Spanish federation, Pedro Rocha.

The appointment of Montse Tomé and the dismissal of Jorge Vilda took place on the same day that the RFEF institutionally requested, through the current president, the most sincere apologies to world football and the fans, for the behavior of the suspended president Luís Rubiales.
