A detainee and 25 French PSG supporters identified by PSP in special operation

A French citizen was arrested and 25 others identified during a PSP intervention in Bairro Alto, Lisbon, on the eve of the Champions League football match between Benfica and Paris Saint-Germain, it was announced this Thursday.

In a statement, the PSP said it has been carrying out a special operation from the day before the game, which was held in Estádio da Luz on Wednesday, until the departure of the visiting fans, in the places where they were most concentrated.

According to the PSP in the note, on the eve of the match, in the Bairro Alto district, when police helped a supporter of the French club who had been attacked shortly before, he ended up hitting a police officer and fleeing to a group of about 40 supporters. .

Such an attitude, the statement reads, forced a “wave of dissemination and the use of coercive devices with low lethal potential for the arrest of the individual and to end aggressive and violent behavior directed at the police”.

On the day of the match, at the exit of the Colégio Militar metro, when authorities created a police line to keep supporters from both clubs away, about 150 French supporters tried to cross the police perimeter towards the remaining supporters. .

The PSP says it was “violently intervened” to avoid clashes and direct PSG supporters to Avenida do Colégio Militar, towards the stadium.

According to the statement, two reports of aggression have also been prepared in the vicinity of the stadium, one for fraud, one for using pyrotechnic artifact, one for unauthorized ‘drone’ operation and another for entering a sports complex. .

The news items have been sent to the competent authorities and the detainee will be present at the competent judicial authority this Thursday, the PSP said.

The operation involved several aspects of the PSP, namely rapid intervention, spotters, traffic, public transport security, airport security, criminal investigation, prevention and immediate response teams and in strengthening the special police unit, namely the Intervention and Cinotechnical Operational Group.

On Wednesday, Benfica drew 1-1 against Paris Saint-Germain in a third-round match of the Football Champions League, which keeps the two teams level on points at the top of Group H.
