The vice-champion of Europe Catarina Costa and the judoka Rodrigo Lopes were eliminated in the Judo World Championships, which will take place until October 13 at the Humo Arena, in Tashkent.
In the Humo Arena, the European runner-up Catarina Costa lost by Ipon against the German Menza Chatarina in the -48 kg category, in a fight that was already decided on a golden point.
Already a judoka at Benfica, 28th in the ranking, Rodrigo Lopes lost the fight with the South Korean Harim Lee (18th), in a defeat against Ipon, in the -60 kg category.
It was the second time that the two judokas faced each other, after having faced each other in June of this year at the Grand Slam of Ulaanbaatar, a race already scoring for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, Rodrigo Lopes being excluded in the repechage phase.
Attention is now focused on Jorge Fonseca, who next Tuesday will defend the world title in the -100 kg category.
Asia is once again the scene of some Judo World Championships, after a ‘pause’ in Budapest, in 2021, where the Portuguese Jorge Fonseca was proclaimed world champion.
