The mayor of Porto (CMP), Rui Moreira, considered this Thursday that “opacity in sport attracts the worst and repels the best” and welcomed the initiatives that promote reflection and transparency.
Rui Moreira spoke at the opening of a debate on integrity in sport, at the Palacio de la Bolsa, within the framework of the Sport Integrity Week 2023 event, promoted by SIGA (Sport Integrity Global Alliance), in 35 cities in 21 countries.
The mayor considered “rewarding” and “timely” a day that “fights for ethics in sports” and addresses essential values such as “integrity, fairness, sports truth, justice and fair play, values that must always be present”.
“It is very gratifying to receive a conference that fights for ethics”, added Rui Moreira, referring to the debate with various sports agents on Integrity in Sport and the (new) challenges, which took place at the Palacio de la Bolsa .
Emanuel Medeiros, executive director of SIGA – a world organization dedicated to promoting integrity in sport – drew a parallel between the values of Porto, “a very noble, loyal and undefeated city”, and those of the organization it runs.
The conference, with speakers linked to the sports and justice industry, opens space for debate on the best practices for integrity and transparency in sport, as well as its governance, promoting the acculturation of a sustainable and trustworthy sports ecosystem.
