The FPF offers its solidarity to Morocco and leaves “a sincere hug” to “Portugal’s partner”

The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) offered its solidarity this Saturday to Morocco, Portugal’s partner in the bid to organize the 2030 World Cup together with Spain, in response to the earthquake that, on Friday, caused at least 632 deaths.

“The FPF deeply regrets and sends its deepest condolences to Morocco and all those affected by the terrible earthquake tonight,” reads a statement from the federative body.

On Friday, at 11:11 p.m. local time (same time in Lisbon), an earthquake of magnitude 6.9 on the Richter scale with its epicenter in the town of Ighil, 63 kilometers southwest of the city of Marrakech, caused at least 632 deaths. and 329 injured, 51 of whom are in serious condition, according to the Moroccan Ministry of the Interior.

“Morocco, a hospitable country, full of energy and joy, has been a partner of Portugal and Spain in the construction of a beautiful candidacy that sought from the beginning to unite Africa and Europe. Seeing a tragedy of this magnitude that hits our friends is a reason for us enormous shock and sadness,” continued the FPF.

In this sense, and in the face of the damage caused by the earthquake, which was also felt in Spain and Portugal, the FPF reiterated its solidarity.

“Offering our solidarity, with words but also with all the initiatives that can alleviate your pain, I leave a heartfelt Portuguese hug to Morocco,” concluded the FPF.
