Portuguese cyclist Rui Costa (Intermarché-Circus-Wanty) won the 15th stage of the Tour of Spain this Sunday, as part of the breakaway of the day, and returned to victories in the Grand Tours 10 years later.
Ten years after two victories in the Tour de France, in which he was crowned long-distance world champion in 2013, he made his debut in the Vuelta by covering 158.3 kilometers between Pamplona and Lekunberri in 3:30.56 hours, completing a sprint limited to the German Lennard Kämna (BORA hansgrohe), second, and the Colombian Santiago Buitrago (Bahrain-Victorious), third.
Rui Costa, 36 years old, had already achieved another victory in a Tour stage in 2011 and today achieved his 31st victory as a professional, but only the first in a stage in the Vuelta.
The team reached a total of 2.52 minutes and the North American Sepp Kuss (Jumbo-Visma) remains the leader, ahead of two teammates: the Slovenian Primoz Roglic is second at 1.37 minutes and the Dane Jonas Vingegaard is third at 1. ,44.
The peloton has the last rest day of this edition of the Tour of Spain on Monday.
