The FIFA process follows normal procedures, despite Rubiales’ dismissal

The disciplinary process initiated by FIFA against Luis Rubiales will follow normal procedures despite the resignation of the president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), a source from the international organization told EFE on Monday.

The same source, contacted by the Spanish news agency, pointed out that the FIFA’s Code of Ethics states that the investigation should continue “irrespective of whether the person is still subject to that code” because he is no longer fulfilling his role.

On Sunday, Luis Rubiales revealed that he had resigned as president of the RFEF, as well as from his role at UEFA, following the controversy caused by the kiss he gave player Jenni Hermoso on the lips, after Spain’s unprecedented victory in the UEFA Champions League. final of the Women’s World Cup on August 20.

FIFA announced five days later the opening of disciplinary proceedings against Luis Rubiales for possible breach of the world football body’s Code of Ethics, after the Spanish leader was subsequently suspended for 90 days.

The footballer said the kiss was not consensual, contrary to what the president of the federation claims. Earlier, Rubiales had touched his own genitals in the stands of the stadium to celebrate the Spanish victory.

Both behaviors earned him complaints from the Spanish government to the Administrative Sports Court, which also decided to open disciplinary proceedings against Rubiales.

The current RFEF president, Pedro Rocha, went ahead with the dismissal of Jorge Vilda from the position of women’s coach, who was replaced by Montse Tomé.
