Danish cyclist Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma) took his second victory in the Tour of Spain on Tuesday, winning the 16th stage and narrowing the gap to his North American companion Sepp Kuss, who retained the red jersey.
The current two-time Tour champion attacked more than four kilometers from the finish and crossed the finish line alone at the end of the 120.5 kilometers between the beach of Liencres and Bejes with a time of 02:38.23 hours. New Zealander Finn Fisher-Black (UAE Emirates) came second at 43 seconds, and Dutchman Wout Poels (Bahrain-Victorious) came third at 49 seconds.
Kuss struggled after his teammate’s attack but maintained his lead in the general classification and on Wednesday he faces the 124.5 kilometers between Ribadesella and the top of Angliru with a 29 second lead over Vingegaard, now second. from Jumbo-Visma, who finished third 01.33 minutes behind the North American.
