Sporting signs three reinforcements and injures St. Juste in the Europa League

Sporting has registered the three footballers signed during the summer transfer window and the injured Jeremiah St. Juste in the Europa League, the group stage of which starts next week, UEFA announced on Tuesday.

Right back Iván Fresneda, midfielder Morten Hjulmand and striker Viktor Gyökeres are in coach Rúben Amorim’s top twenty, as is Dutch central defender St. Juste, who has been recovering from physical problems with his left knee since April.

List B has not been released by UEFA, but does include athletes who usually play in the main squad, such as goalkeeper Diego Callai, defenders Eduardo Quaresma and João Muniz, midfielder Dário Essugo and forwards Afonso Moreira and Rodrigo Ribeiro.

Sporting, runners-up in 2004/05, begin their participation in the Europa League with a visit to Austrian side Sturm Graz, on September 21, at the Merkur Arena in Graz, in the opening round of Group D, which also hosts Atalanta of Italy and Raków from Poland.

The first phase of the 53rd edition of the second European club competition runs until December 14 and will determine the winners of the ‘pools’ for the ‘eighth’ and the runners-up for the play-off, with the final scheduled for May 22, 2024, in the Dublin Arena.

List A of players registered by Sporting in the Europa League:

– Goalkeepers: Antonio Adán and Franco Israel.

– Defense: Iván Fresneda, Ricardo Esgaio, Jeremiah St. Juste, Sebastián Coates, Luís Neto, Gonçalo Inácio, Ousmane Diomande and Matheus Reis.

– Midfielders: Morten Hjulmand, Hidemasa Morita, Daniel Bragança and Pedro Gonçalves.

– Forwards: Marcus Edwards, Geny Catamo, Nuno Santos, Francisco Trincão, Viktor Gyökeres and Paulinho.
