The women’s world football champions maintain their position that they will not return to the Spanish national team because they believe that not enough structural changes have been made. This position had already been expressed in a statement on August 25 and was reaffirmed on Friday morning in a letter to the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), in which they set out the detailed reasons for their decision.
The players believe that the departure of Luis Rubiales (former president) and Jorge Vilda (former coach) is not enough if there are still people the former president trusts in various positions in the federation.
In the late afternoon of this Thursday, a meeting took place between the Spanish players, eventually also attended by the FUTPRO union, in which the different points of view were presented and an agreement was reached. The letter to the RFEF explains the reasons for the players’ decision.
The question now is who will call up selector Montse Tomé for the matches against Sweden, which they will face in Gothenburg on the 22nd, and against Switzerland, in Córdoba on the 26th, both corresponding to the first two rounds of the Nations League. qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
