The national rugby team debuted in the World Cup this Saturday with a 28-8 defeat against Wales.
The Wolves, who had not participated in the competition since 2007, suffered from the physical power of the Welsh. After just nine minutes, Louis Rees-Zammit scored the first try and Leigh Halfpenny converted the kick. Samuel Marques reduced the score in the 37th minute with a penalty, but Dewi Lake again scored a try for the Welsh. Leigh Halfpenny converted another kick and the British Isles team went into the break with a 14-3 lead.
In the second half, Wales started better again and scored a try in the 56th minute, through Jac Morgan. Leigh Halfpenny kicked again and didn’t flinch. The Portuguese team reduced the score again in the 65th minute, with a try from Nicolas Martins. At the final whistle, Taulupe Faletau scored another try and did not doubt Sam Costelow’s conversion shot.
