Neemias Queta officially signed this Tuesday with the Boston Celtics, and the North American Basketball League (NBA) team revealed that the Portuguese international center signed a two-way contract, without providing further details.
“The Boston Celtics announced today [terça-feira] that the team signed a two-way contract with Neemias Queta. Due to team policy, the terms of the agreement were not disclosed,” reads the Boston franchise’s official website.
The Portuguese international center, who was released by the Sacramento Kings on September 13, after two seasons, will be able to play for both the Boston Celtics and the secondary team, the Maine Celtics.
Neemias Queta had a two-way contract in the previous two seasons, in order to allow him to be used in games for the Sacramento Kings in the NBA, as well as in games for the secondary team, the Stockton Kings, in the Development League. (G League).
In August of this year, the center signed a “standard contract” with the Kings, but ended up being released, becoming a free agent, which allowed him to sign for any other team to continue his career, as happened now.
The 24-year-old center forward was chosen by the Sacramento Kings in the 39th position in the 2021 NBA draft, becoming the first Portuguese to play in the competition.
In his first two seasons in the NBA, Neemias Queta participated in 20 games with the Sacramento team. The post was the most used by the Stockton Kings, with whom he played 43 games last season, averaging 17.7 points, 8.7 rebounds and 1.9 tackles per game.
His good performances in the G-League earned the Portuguese player second place in the voting for Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the regular phase of the competition, behind point guard Carlik Jones.
