In turn, Cavinato took to social media to talk about “one of the most difficult days of his life” and explain the reasons that led him to take a banned substance.
“Last June, and after more than a week of stoppage, caused by a head injury during training, and without bad faith on my part, I took a metabolism-accelerating medication to lose part of the weight gained with the stop” , explains explained..
The 38-year-old winger added that he took the medication “with a clear conscience and without thinking that it contained a substance prohibited by the Anti-Doping Authority” of Portugal (ADoP).
“An involuntary error on my part led to a possible sanction, which will precipitate a pause that I hope will be brief, but will make my sporting participation unfeasible in the medium term,” he concluded.
Cavinato played a total of 341 official matches for Sporting and scored 340 goals, having won two Champions Leagues, six championships, five Portuguese Cups, four League Cups and four Super Cups.
