Poland moved forward this Wednesday with its candidacy for the 2036 Olympic Games, and President Andrzej Duda made the intention official during the European Sports and Tourism Congress, which is being held in Zakopane, in the south of the country.
“I would like to announce that, after consultations with the leadership of the Polish Olympic Committee, the Ministry of Sports and the Government, our ambition and intention is to strive to host the Summer Olympic Games in our country in 2036,” declared the ruler.
During the speech, Duda highlighted how Poland and Ukraine successfully organized the 2012 European Football Championship, as well as the third edition of the European Games, held between June and July of this year between Krakow and Malopolska.
The President stressed that by then Poland “will be 100% prepared” in terms of infrastructure, since the Warsaw macro-airport project, known as the “Central Communications Port”, and another three thousand kilometers of highways will have been completed. . .
“We will have a large, super-modern airport with a network of rail connections,” he said, expressing the hope that the 13 years until 2036 will be enough to meet the necessary needs not only in terms of infrastructure, but also in terms of the field of sports.
Duda also revealed that, in the coming days, he will send a letter addressed to the president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and that he is personally involved in the project: “I promise that I will personally commit to ensuring that we have the opportunity to celebrate the Olympic Games in summer”.
So far there are three bids to host the 2036 Olympic Games: Mexico, Indonesia and Turkey.
There are also proposals to hold them in Egypt, Canada, South Korea, China, India, Qatar, Hungary, Italy, Denmark and a joint organization project between Germany and Israel for the centenary of the 1936 Berlin Games.
