Manchester City eliminated by Newcastle in the English League Cup

Manchester City, the current English and European football champions, were eliminated this Wednesday after participating in the League Cup, being defeated 1-0 in the third round in Newcastle.

Further on are Fulham, coached by Portuguese Marco Silva, as well as historic Liverpool (3-1 against Leicester, with a goal from Diogo Jota), Arsenal (1-0 against Brentford) and Chelsea (1-0 against Brighton).

The ‘Sky Blues’, with a perfect campaign in the League, took a risk and presented a team composed mainly of non-starters at Saint James’ Park. They fared poorly with the experience, losing the second competition of the season – the first being the Community Shield, in which they were defeated by Arsenal.

Clearly moral, after the ‘nil’ at AC Milan and the 8-0 against Sheffield, Newcastle did everything they could to win and the victory remained ‘scarce’, worth Alexander Isak’s goal in the 53rd minute.

Matheus Nunes was the only Portuguese player in the match for the ‘citizens’ and came into the field at the age of 68. Rúben Dias did not leave the bench and Bernardo Silva is still recovering from a knee injury.

Fulham, coached by Portuguese Marco Silva and with João Palhinha as midfield strategist, hosted and defeated Norwich from the Championship 2–1.

At Craven Cottage, Fulham took the lead through the Brazilian Carlos Vinícius (12th minute) and then made it 2-0, thanks to a goal by the Nigerian Iwobi (72).

Spaniard Borja Sainz reduced the score to 2-1 at the age of 75.

Diogo Jota completed the scoring in the 89th minute of Liverpool’s reception against Leicester, also in the second level. The Reds’ other goals came from Gakpo (48) and Szoboszlai (70).

Leicester, with Ricardo Pereira in the center of the defence, took the lead in the third minute, scored by McAteer, but ultimately did not know how to capitalize on the advantage.

Chelsea won 1–0 against Brighton (Jackson’s goal, in the 50th minute) and Arsenal triumphed at Brentford, by the same margin (Nelson, 08).

Beto was a substitute in Everton’s 2-1 win over Aston Villa in Birmingham.
