The president of FC Porto, Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa, announced this Thursday that work on the new Dragons academy will begin in early 2024 and the project already has guaranteed financing.
“We continue to dream that the club we receive has to continue to get bigger and bigger. As Pessoa said, ‘I have all the dreams in the world inside me’ and I keep dreaming. What is planned, which is to start the operation at the beginning of 2024 , it will be a reality,” guaranteed Pinto da Costa in his speech at the end of the Golden Dragons gala, which took place at the Porto Coliseu.
The new academy will be built in the municipality of Maia, “in collaboration with the City Council”, it will have 20 hectares, 22 thousand square meters and already has “guaranteed financing.” The project is already underway by architect Manuel Salgado.
The academy will have a II League stadium, nine 11-a-side soccer fields and one 7-a-side soccer field, medical offices, a gym, locker rooms, hydrotherapy, study and leisure rooms, as well as 70 rooms, a dining room and a kitchen.
In a speech aligned with the past, present and future, Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa did not fail to remember, on the day when FC Porto celebrates 130 years of existence, several figures who marked the history of the dragons, getting emotional when He spoke for Fernando Gomes, who died at the end of last year.
Looking ahead to this Friday’s classic, Pinto da Costa regretted that the professional soccer team could not be present because it is “at the service” of the club.
