Neemias Queta will perform preseason with the Boston Celtics

Portuguese international Neemias Queta will participate in the Boston Celtics training camp, with a view to preparing for the 2023/24 season, the North American Basketball League (NBA) team reported this Monday.

The Portuguese international center, who was released by the Sacramento Kings on September 13, after two seasons, is part of the list of 18 athletes prepared by coach Joe Mazzulla.

Luke Kornet and Al Horford of the Dominican Republic are Queta’s main competitors for the position.

The first preseason game of five is scheduled for October 8, at the TD Garden in Boston, against the Philadelphia 76ers.

Queta, 24, will be able to play for the Boston Celtics or the secondary team, the Maine Celtics, similar to what happened with the Sacramento Kings, with whom he had a two-way contract, in order to be used in NBA games. , as well as in the games of the secondary team, the Stockton Kings, in the Development League (G-League).

In August of this year, the center signed a “standard contract” with the Kings, but ended up being released, becoming a free agent, which allowed him to sign for any other team to continue his career, as happened now.

The 24-year-old center forward was chosen by the Sacramento Kings in the 39th position in the 2021 NBA draft, becoming the first Portuguese to play in the competition.

In his first two seasons in the NBA, Neemias Queta participated in 20 games with the Sacramento team. The post was the most used by the Stockton Kings, with whom he played 43 games last season, averaging 17.7 points, 8.7 rebounds and 1.9 tackles per game.

His good performances in the G-League earned the Portuguese player second place in the voting for Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the regular phase of the competition, behind point guard Carlik Jones.
