FC Porto SAD recorded a negative consolidated net profit of 47.627 million euros (ME) in the 2022/23 season, after two consecutive years of profit, the number two of the Portuguese First Football League announced on Friday.
In a statement on the official website of the Securities Market Commission (CMVM) on the Internet, the “dragons” recall the “lack of capital gains from the sale of sports rights of relevant players in the period under review” to ensure the reversal of the trajectories verified in 2020 /21 – 19.3 ME – and in 2021/22 – 20,765 ME.
Despite the increase in costs, from 145,062 MU to 166,046 MU, FC Porto achieved “an increase in operational revenues”, excluding player passes, from 143,778 MU to 166,007 MU, “with a greater incidence” linked to the presence in European competitions .
“The results regarding player passes were negative at 24,148 MU, which contrasts with the positive value of 44,997 MU in 2021/22. The costs related to depreciation and impairment losses with passes remained in line with the same period last year, but the results with the transfer of players’ passes did not have their usual predominance in the revenues of this group, as they spent only 13,981 MU on the had contributed to the result,” said the SAD led by Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa.
The results presented do not yet include the transfer of Portuguese international midfielder Otávio to the Saudis from Al Nassr, which in August became the most expensive transaction in the history of FC Porto and yielded 60 ME inherent in its termination clause.
“In a year marked by challenges and uncertainties about a return to normality, after three seasons affected by the pandemic [de covid-19] Overall, the commercial sector has achieved robust and sustained growth, driven by the diversification of experiences, which bring us closer to our fans and partners and strengthen the emotional bond with FC Porto’s brands,” FC Porto added, and further noted that EBITDA is “positive of 23,108 ME, something that reflects the resources released by the company’s operating activities”.
The assets of the ‘blue and white’ SAD decreased to 356,292 MU, against the 418,449 MU added on June 30, 2022, while liabilities grew from 530,117 MU to 532,272 MU, due to a decrease in negative equity from 111,668 ME to 175,980 ME.
In 2022/23, the team led by Sérgio Conceição failed to reconfirm the title of national champions and finished second in the I League, with 85 points, only two behind Benfica, but won the Portuguese Cup for the 19th time and came second in a row, the 23rd Cândido de Oliveira Super Cup and an unprecedented League Cup, in which they lost in the eighth finals of the Champions League to the Italians of Inter Milan, the defeated finalists of that edition.
