Toti Gomes is excluded again and misses Portugal’s match in Bosnia

Defender Toti Gomes was once again left out of the list of 23 Portuguese footballers for this Monday’s match against Bosnia-Herzegovina, in Zenica, on the eighth day of Group J of the qualifying phase for Euro 2024.

The English central defender from Wolverhampton was the player ignored by coach Roberto Martínez, since UEFA only allows 23 players to be on the list for the match, after failing to beat Slovakia (3-2), on the last day, in the Stadium do Dragão, in Porto, where the ‘quinas’ sealed their qualification for the final phase to be held in Germany next year.

Toti Gomes, 24 years old, for the third time in the Spanish coach’s squad, is still looking to compete for his first call-up with the ‘quinas’ team.

Bosnia-Portugal is scheduled for 8:45 p.m. local time (7:45 p.m. Lisbon), at the Bilino Polje Stadium, in Zenica, and will be refereed by the Turkish Halil Umut Meler.

After seven days, the Portuguese team is already classified and remains completely victorious in Group J, leading with 21 points, eight more than Slovakia, second classified. Luxembourg is in third place, with 11, followed by Bosnia, with nine, and Iceland, with seven. Liechtenstein has no points yet.

The first two places in the group give direct access to the final phase of the next Euro Cup, which will take place in Germany.

In November, Portugal closes the qualifying round with a trip to Liechtenstein and welcomes Iceland.
