San Marino, last classified in group H, hosted Denmark on Tuesday in a qualifying match for Euro 2024. Despite having lost 1-2 and having registered the twenty-second consecutive defeat, the match took place at the same venue . After 334 days, Alessandro Golinucci scored what was the San Marino team’s first goal after a break of more than two years.
The last goal came in November 2022 in a friendly against Saint Lucia. However, in official competitions we have to go back to 2021, in the 7-1 defeat against Poland.
On Tuesday, San Marino managed to score their first goal in official competitions in more than two years. It was also the first time that San Marino scored a goal against a team in the top 50 of the FIFA rankings.
