The Authority for the Prevention and Combating of Violence in Sport (APCVD) opened proceedings this Monday over “alleged racist insults” against Benfica basketball player Betinho Gomes, during his visit to FC Porto on Sunday.
In a statementThe APCVD reports the opening of an “administrative violation process to establish the facts” surrounding the match at the Dragão Arena, counting for the fourth round of the Men’s Competition, which the ‘dragons’ won 79-62.
The 38-year-old Cape Verde international and former Portuguese international used the social network Instagram to denounce the racist insults he received from fans in the stands of the pavilion.

The insults against the ‘red’ player started during the warm-up and Betinho decided not to react and focus on the match, although he now “deeply regrets” that he did not “confront people” in the face of a situation that “must end once and for all”.
“There is no place for racism in the pavilions or anywhere else. (…) FC Porto must identify these people and ban them from the pavilion and the stadium. The federation also has an important role in all this,” he wrote. .
