Two Farense fans were attacked this Sunday in Vila Verde, at the end of the match with Länk Vilaverdense, and were taken to the Braga hospital, the GNR revealed, adding that the alleged attackers are at large.
After the end of the third round match of the Portuguese Football Cup, in which the Vila Verde team won, two fans from Farense were attacked “and were treated on site and then transferred to the Braga hospital,” indicated a source from the GNR, stressing that there were “two minor injuries.”
“The alleged attackers fled in a car,” added the same source, indicating that so far there are four suspects, but “there is still no certainty,” since investigations are ongoing.
When the police authorities arrived at the scene, the clashes had already occurred but, according to Farense, their fans were subject to an “ambush” after the match against Länk Vilaverdense, in the Portuguese Cup.
“Approximately half an hour after finishing the match and in the vicinity of the Cruz do Reguengo municipal stadium, a group of Farense fans, when they were heading to the bus that would transport them back to Faro, were ambushed by a group of approximately between 20 and 30 elements, with their faces covered and armed with belts, sticks and other accessories, brutally attacked them,” reads the note released by the Faro club.
Länk Vilaverdense, from the II Liga, beat first division Farense 3-2 at home this Sunday and qualified for the fourth round of the Portuguese Football Cup.
