Lank Vilaverdense qualified this Sunday for the fourth day of the Portuguese Football Cup, by beating Farense, from the I Liga, 3-2, in a match that marked the return home of the II team League.
Lénio opened the scoring, at 54 minutes, João Caiado, who replaced him, scored the second, at 87, and Bruno Silva closed the scoring for Vilaverdense, at 90+1. Farense scored in added time, with goals from Talocha, at 90+3, and Bruno Duarte, from a penalty, at 90+8.
Four months and 19 days later, Vilaverdense returned to play at Cruz do Reguengo and sought to recover last season’s winning streak, against a Farense team that was too soft in the first minutes.
Strictly speaking, despite the greatest initiative of the locals, who gave coach Sérgio Machado his debut, we had to wait until the 21st minute for the fans to applaud a dangerous play, but Fati, incredibly, failed to correct the little Farense . area, after a center from Rafael Viegas from the right.
This play served as a wake-up call for Algarve, who, in response, saw a shot by Rui Costa (already in the area) blocked in front by Batista, who offered his body to the ball. The Algarve team took advantage of the momentum and soon after it was Zé Luís, one of the six new players in José Mota’s lineup, who wasted a good situation by shooting wide after a corner.
The match only gained momentum again in the second half and after Lénio’s initial goal, in the 54th minute, with a shot from the corner of the Farense area. Algarve tried to react, but it would be the home side who scored again, and twice, with goals from substitutes João Caiado and Bruno Silva, the latter already in added time.
In a last attempt, Farense scored two goals, after several threats, but the goals from Talocha, the best of the afternoon, and Bruno Duarte were insufficient to at least force extra time.
