Italy, Czech Republic and Slovenia qualified for Euro2024

Defending champions Italy, the Czech Republic and Slovenia today qualified for the 2024 European Football Championship, increasing the number of teams guaranteed a place in the final to twenty.

The Italians, winners of the competition in 1968 and 2020, will participate for the eleventh time, and seventh in a row, after missing the last two World Cups (2018 and 2022), the Czechs, second in 1996, are eighth, not counting the three from Czechoslovakia (champions in 1976), and the Slovenians the second, a repeat of 2000.

The Transalpine team took second place in Group C after a 0-0 draw against Ukraine in Leverkusen, which saw the Ukrainians relegated to the ‘play-offs’ and finishing behind England.

In Group E, the Czech Republic secured second place after a 3-0 win over Moldova, which was eliminated from the competition.

In turn, Slovenia finished second in Group H, behind Denmark, by beating Kazakhstan, who had been relegated to the play-offs, 2–1 at home.

At Euro2024, Italians, Czechs and Slovenians will join hosts Germany as well as Portugal, Albania, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Scotland, Slovakia, Spain, France, Hungary, England, Netherlands, Romania, Serbia, Switzerland and Turkey.

The final direct place will be announced on Tuesday, between Croatia and Wales, with the team failing to join Poland, Finland, Ukraine, Israel, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Iceland, Georgia, Greece, Kazakhstan, Luxembourg and Estonia.

The twelve teams will compete between March 21 and 26, 2024 for the last three places in the final phase of Euro2024, which will take place from June 14 to July 14 in Germany. The draw for the play-offs is scheduled for Thursday in Nyon.
