Italian rider Luca Marini will take the place of Spaniard Marc Márquez in Honda’s official MotoGP team, leaving the Ducati satellite, the Japanese manufacturer’s team competing in the Speed Motorcycle World Championship, which was announced on Monday.
Marini, 26 years old, half-brother of former Italian rider Valentino Rossi, seven-time world champion in the premier class and one of the greatest references in the sport, signed a two-year contract with Honda, which finished in last place in the 2023 Constructors’ Championship.
The transalpine rider joins Spaniard Joan Mir, MotoGP World Champion in 2020, after achieving the first two podium appearances of his career this year in the premier class, in which he has been competing since 2021, in the United States (second place ) and in Qatar (third).
Márquez, six-time MotoGP champion, will take the opposite route, switching from Honda to Ducati a year before the end of his contract to join his brother Álex Márquez in the Ducati-Gresini satellite.
