Diogo Ribeiro came 7th in the final of the 100 meter freestyle. In his first participation in an absolute European Short Course, the Portuguese swimmer swam the 100 meters in 46.61 seconds. An impressive milestone considering he is still recovering from food poisoning that affected the final days of preparation before arriving in the Romanian town of Otopeni, where the Europeans take place.
The 19-year-old swimmer started his participation in the European Open Short Course (25 meters, non-Olympic distance) in the 100 meter butterfly. He reached the semi-finals, but broke the national distance record, which belonged to Fernando Silva, and set it at 51.01 seconds.
The film was repeated on 50 meters mariposa. He reached the final with a ninth fastest time and a new national record (22.71s). In the 100 meters freestyle he reached the final, finishing in 7th place, but with a new national record (46.61 seconds), taking four hundredths off the maximum he had already reached, achieved in December 2022 in Leiria .
Frenchman Maxime Grousset became European champion (45.46s), beating Italian Alessandro Miressi (45.51s) and Romanian David Popovici (46.05s).
