Brazilian striker Marcos Leonardo stated that he hopes to score many goals and help Benfica win many titles, in his first words as the first reinforcement of the ‘reds’ soccer team in the winter market.
“I am very happy that Benfica chose me and also that I chose Benfica. It is a great club in Portugal. Many Brazilian players have already done well here, like, for example, Jonas. I hope to repeat their feat, score a lot of goals, help the team and win a lot of titles,” he said in statements to BTV.
Marcos Leonardo spoke with the television channel of the current national champion, after signing a contract valid for five and a half years, until June 2029, with a termination clause of 150 million euros, from Santos, the Brazilian club in which he plays. The ‘ ‘ paid 18 million euros.

The 20-year-old Canarinho striker will wear the number 36 shirt and has defined himself as a player capable of finishing with either foot.
“Since I was little I trained with both feet, shooting with my right foot and my left foot. My father helped me a lot in my work off the field and that contributed a lot to me being here today,” he acknowledged.
To Benfica fans, the player only promises “humility and work.”
“With great humility I will arrive, I will work, I will help the team and the entire squad to score many goals, I will help with assists and I will contribute in the best possible way,” he stated.
Marcos Leonardo also really wanted to play at the Estádio da Luz, which he already visited.
“When I entered the stadium I was delighted. It is a beautiful, perfect stadium,” concluded the reinforcement of the ‘reds’, who remain in second place in the I Liga 2023/24, one point behind the leader Sporting.
