FC Porto starts three proceedings after contempt of the extraordinary AG

FC Porto initiated three proceedings against associates as a result of the contempt found in the extraordinary General Assembly (AG), the president of the Fiscal and Disciplinary Council of the national soccer runner-up declared to the Lusa agency this Saturday.

“The preliminary investigations have ended and disciplinary proceedings have already been initiated. There are three, initially. At the moment, the deadlines are running out. Everything is in accordance. The subsequent process continues normally and I believe that in 10 or 15 days everything will be closed” , explained Jorge Guimarães, almost two months after the suspension of the works.

Deliberation on the club’s statutory review headed the main session on November 13, 2023, which had to be ‘diverted’ at the last minute from an auditorium at the Estádio do Dragão to the Dragão Arena pavilion, in Porto, due to the large participation of partners.

The GA resumed late, but several people left the blue and white sports venue shortly after, after incidents in the stands.

“There were no complaints [a nível particular] that it had come to the attention of the Supervisory Board and, supposedly, the management, who, if it had been the case, would surely have informed me. “There was no police participation or people admitted to hospitals who, possibly, had been subjected to aggression or had felt bad, putting what happened in the Prosecutor’s Office as a proximate cause,” he said.

Suspended on the same day by the president of the Board of Directors of the General Assembly (MAG), José Lourenço Pinto, the meeting was postponed until November 20, but would be canceled two days before, with the club’s Superior Council withdrawing the statutory proposal in debate. .

The day after the GA, the management of FC Porto condemned the lack of respect and assured that it would use “the means at its disposal to identify those responsible for the physical attacks”, mobilizing the different social bodies to open disciplinary procedures, while that the Public Ministry (MP) began an investigation into the incidents at the Dragão Arena.

“The management knows what is happening and knows that the procedure was initiated after a rigorous investigation. We have already seen the surveillance cameras and supporting videos of the pavilion. There are several videos that have been widely circulated on social networks and in the company itself. written press tried to publish some of them. It was on this basis that the preliminary investigation was closed and disciplinary actions were initiated,” explained Jorge Guimarães.

The Fiscal and Disciplinary Council began the procedures within 30 days following the extraordinary General Assembly and sent the respective statements of guilt to the three indicated associates, who enjoy the possibility of exercising their right of defense in a prior hearing.

According to the statutes of FC Porto, third placed in the I Liga, with 35 points, five behind the outstanding leader Sporting, the sanctions applicable by the body led by Jorge Guimarães vary between reprimand, reprimand, suspension or even expulsion of a member.

“Consequences? The first entity to which I will transmit this is the management itself. Now, I cannot be transmitting in advance situations that not even the management knows very well at this moment. In fact, they never asked me about the issue, otherwise I would have revealed the situation,” concluded the manager, a member of President Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa’s candidacy for the elections to the club’s governing bodies, in 2020.
