Diogo Jota will miss the World Cup due to a calf injury

International Diogo Jota will miss this year’s World Cup due to a “serious” calf injury. The confirmation was given on Tuesday by Liverpool coach Jürgen Klopp at a press conference.

“There is no good news. Jota has a very serious calf injury and will miss the World Cup”, said the German coach.

The international, it is recalled, was injured in the duel with Manchester City last weekend, ending up leaving the pitch on a stretcher, which caused concern from the outset.

“This is the first diagnosis, but it was very clear right away. Now we have to start the recovery process,” Klopp added.

The coach of the Portuguese international stressed that “it is very sad news for the boy, for us and, of course, for Portugal” and assured that Diogo Jota will not need to undergo surgery to recover from this injury.

The advanced Portuguese will, as well, sign out of the squads of the Portuguese selector Fernando Santos for the World Championship, which started scheduled for November 20, being second down for Portugal, after Pedro Neto, who contracted an injury to a tornado two weeks ago.

to live TSFthe football commentator Óscar Botelho identifies “bad news” for the national team “because of the alternatives that Jota offers in positional, structural and even strategic terms”, without forgetting that the player has scored ten goals in 29 games, the last in the thrashing of the Czech Republic (4-0) in September for the League of Nations.

With this injury, Rafael Leão “can win some places”, like Ricardo Horta, but both are “different players” from the Liverpool striker, who has characteristics “very difficult to suppress”.

The World Cup takes place in Qatar between November 20 and December 18.

Portugal is included in group H, along with Ghana, Uruguay and South Korea, with its debut in the competition scheduled for November 24, against the Ghanaians.
