Tottenham was defeated this Sunday by 2-1, in the reception to Newcastle, and left the champion Manchester City isolated in second place in the English Football League, before facing Sporting in Group D of the League of Champions.
In London, the ‘Spurs’ had a first part of matchday 13 to forget, thanks to goals from Callum Wilson, in minute 31, and Miguel Almirón, in minute 40, with the Londoners responding after the rest, by Harry Kane (54).
With this defeat, Tottenham maintains the same 23 points, at the bottom of the podium, three behind Manchester City (second) and five behind the isolated leader, rival Arsenal.
The ‘magpies’ ‘jump’ to fourth place, with 21, the same as Chelsea (fifth). Before, Arsenal stayed in first place, but now, with less margin for the pursuers, given the tie in Southampton (1-1), while Fulham, led by Portuguese Marco Silva, went to Leeds to win by 3 -two.
The team led by Mikel Arteta took the lead early in the match, when Ben White served Xhaka, in the 11th minute, for a shot in the penalty area, however, after the break, the ‘saints’ restored equality, through mediation by Stuart Armstrong (sixty-five).
For the ‘gunners’, the Portuguese midfielder Fábio Vieira was an option in the final stretch, while his compatriot Cédric Soares is still looking to make his debut in the 2022/23 edition of the competition and returned to the substitute bench.
At Elland Road, the ‘cottagers’, with João Palhinha starting, started losing, against the goal of former Benfica player Rodrigo (minute 20), but they managed to react shortly after by Mitrovic (26), with Boby Reid (74) running the overturned in the second half, before Willian (84) sentenced the entrance, which leaves Fulham in seventh position, with 18 points.
Crysencio Summerville (90+1), in discount time, still had time to close the gap to the minimum margin (3-2).
Wolverhampton is still in ‘bad condition’, due to the seventh defeat allowed in the Premier League, this time at the reception to Leicester (4-0), which took a new breath in the fight to escape from the dangerous positions in the table.
A great goal from the Belgian Tielemans undid the ‘void’ in the eighth minute, opening the way for Barnes (19) to make the ‘Foxes’ very comfortable, even more so when James Maddison (66) and Jamie Vardy (80) left the result with scoring numbers.
At the Molineux Stadium, the Portuguese José Sá, João Moutinho, Rúben Neves, Matheus Nunes and Daniel Podence started, while Nélson Semedo let go during the second half and Gonçalo Guedes did not leave the ‘bench’.
Nottinham Forest (20th), Wolverhampton (19th) and Leeds (18th) have nine points in the three relegation places.
By the same result, against Brentford, Aston Villa returned to good results at Villa Park, in Birmingham, in what was the first game since the dismissal of manager Steven Gerrard.
The ‘busted’ goal from Jamaican Leon Bailey, after two minutes, and a ‘bis’ from Danny Ings (seven and 14), the last penalty, practically solved the challenge, which did not end without Ollie Watkins (59) to register the name in the bulleted list.
