Mundial 2022: Goalkeeper Diogo Costa fails in Portugal’s second training session

Goalkeeper Diogo Costa was the only one absent this Tuesday with physical problems at the second training of the Portuguese football team, which is preparing for participation in the final phase of the World Cup, in Qatar.

The FC Porto goalkeeper, who had not trained on Monday, had some muscle problems and remained in the gym, making him the only one of the 26 called-up athletes not to appear on the main field of Cidade do Futebol.

In this way, coach Fernando Santos had 25 players, unlike what happened the day before, at the start of work, when he had 16 elements at his disposal, the rest being limited to carrying out repairs.

In the 15-minute session open to journalists, all players trained without restriction, after being divided into two groups to perform possession and circulation drills.

Until Wednesday, the work of the national team will be maintained in a free regime, that is, the athletes are only obliged to come to Cidade do Futebol for training, with complete independence before and after them.

Portugal has a preparation game with Nigeria on Thursday at 6:45 PM, by José Peseiro, scheduled at Estádio José Alvalade, in Lisbon.

On Friday, the Portuguese delegation leaves for Qatar, with their debut scheduled in Group H of the 2022 World Cup on November 24, against Ghana, before meeting Uruguay on December 28 and South Korea, by Paulo Bento, on December 2.

The 22nd edition of the World Cup starts on Sunday, with the game between hosts Qatar and Ecuador, for group A, and ends on December 18.
