Domingos Soares de Oliveira, administrator of Benfica’s SAD, confessed this Friday that “it is not impossible” for the Shield of Light to buy a club abroad in the next five years.
The leader of the ‘incarnated’, who addressed the issue during one of the Thinking Football conference panels, an event organized by the Portuguese Football League, in Porto, pointed out that the national market is already “almost everything” explored, and that solution is to go beyond the borders.
“Regarding betting abroad as a strategy, it is because we see Portugal as a market in which we have already explored almost everything. We have to go abroad, I have already said it in the last 10/15 years. ‘Are we going to buy a club abroad in the next five years? I would say that this is not impossible,’ said Domingos Soares Dias.
Regarding Benfica’s commitment abroad, the director considered that it was justified both in the economic aspect and in attracting talent.
“If we are going to do it through an association or by buying a club, that already depends on many things, but it is certainly something that Benfica has to consider in the near future,” said Domingos Soares Oliveira.
