Sporting recorded the best historical value in turnover in the 2021/22 football season, of 181.9 million euros (ME), mainly due to participation in the Champions League, according to the Report and Accounts revealed this Wednesday.
According to the Annual Report sent by the Lisbon club to the Securities Market Commission, there was a positive net result of 25 ME, which was the third best in history, and the best operating result without player transactions in a single season (12 ME).
The presence in the group stage of the last edition of the ‘millionaire’ contest corresponded to 45.9 ME, to which another 9.6 ME are added for the club’s pass to the round of 16 for the second time in history.
In addition, there was a recovery of income at the ticket office level of 17.2 ME, due to the opening of the stadiums and, consequently, the possibility of filling the venue from October 2021, contrasting “hugely with the null value in the same period “. in which all the matches were played behind closed doors”, due to Covid-19.
In this chapter, the match with Manchester City, referring to the ‘8’ of the 2021/22 Champions League, set a new record of 1.5 ME.
In the ‘merchandising’ area, which includes physical, online and retail stores, a sales record of 8.9 M was registered, an increase of more than 70%, taking into account the best record ever recorded in the 2019/20 season .
