This Tuesday, Argentina faces Saudi Arabia, in a match of the first day of Group C of the group stage of the 2022 World Cup in Russia.
It took Lionel Messi a mere 10 minutes to score goals in the competition, after hitting his foot through a penalty. The Argentines lead 1-0 on the scoreboard, after the captain converted the penalty after a free kick awarded by Leandro Paredes.
After the initial goal, the Pampas team saw three goals annulled for offside. The first, in the 23rd minute, which denied Messi’s double, the second, in the 27th minute, according to the VAR, which prevented the celebration of Lautaro Martínez’s goal -and again at number nine, in the 35th minute -.
At half time, Argentina continued to lead by the smallest margin. Despite flagrant opportunities to increase the score, the defense of Saudi Arabia was attentive to the opponent’s attacks.
The Saudis, as soon as the second half began, surprised everyone and took to the letter the maxim of “those who don’t score, suffer”. Saleh Al-Shehri quickly overcame the Argentine defense and shot across the ball to make it 1-1 and, in the 53rd minute, Salem Al-Dawsari, from outside the area and after some good individual work, turned the score around.
