The Iranian Alireza Faghani will referee the Portugal-Uruguay match

Iranian referee Alireza Faghani has been appointed to officiate the match between Portugal and Uruguay, on Monday, in the second round of Group H of the 2022 World Cup, in Lusail, FIFA announced today.

International since 2008, Faghani, 44, born in Kashmar, will referee for the second time in his career a match for the ‘quinas’ main team.

On June 28, 2017, he refereed the match between Portugal and Chile, in the semifinals of the Confederations Cup, in Kazan, Russia, where the South Americans beat the Portuguese, in a penalty shootout (3-0), after a ‘null’ (0-0).

On Monday, on the biggest stage of the tournament, the Iranian referee will be assisted by his compatriots Mohammadreza Mansouri and Mohammadreza Abolfazli, while Abdulrahman Al Jassim, a native of Qatar, will act as fourth official.

The referee responsible for VAR will be Abdulla Al-Marri, from Qatar.

In this edition of the 2022 World Cup, the ‘judge’ of Iran directed the Brazil-Serbia duel (2-0), on the first day of Group G.

At the 2018 World Cup in Russia, in Russia, he was present in four matches: Germany-Mexico and Serbia-Brazil, both in the group stage, France-Argentina, in the round of 16, and Belgium-England, in which they played the third and the fourth places were awarded.

Portugal and Uruguay will play on Monday, at 10:00 p.m. local time (7:00 p.m. in Lisbon), at the Estádio de Lusail, in a match for the second day of Group H of the 2022 World Cup.

The “quinas” team, which beat Ghana (3-2) in its debut, leads the group, with three points, ahead of South Korea, Paulo Bento, and Uruguay, both with one point, while the Ghanaians, who face the South Koreans on the same day, follow the ‘zero’.

The 22nd edition of the World Championship will run until December 18 in Qatar.
