Agnelli’s reign comes to an end. Juventus board of directors resigns after investigation into bank account forgery

The Juventus board of directors resigned en bloc, this Monday, as part of an investigation for alleged tax fraud and irregularities in the transfer and loan of players from the Italian club. Among the resignations are President Andrea Agnelli and Vice President Pavel Nedved.

The management of the Turin club even sought independent legal advice, but ended up resigning due to the publication of “new legal and accounting opinions” and due to the “centrality and relevance of pending legal and technical-accounting issues,” the team announced. , it’s a statement.

The resignation ends the chapter in the management of Agnelli, who as president won nine Serie A titles and helped the team reach the Champions League final in 2015 and 2017.

At the proposal of Andrea Agnelli, who has led the training in Turin for the last 12 years, and taking into account “the relevance of the pending legal and technical-accounting issues”, all the directors have resigned, reads the website of the ‘vecchia’ Signora’ .

At stake are the recent investigations by the transalpine authorities into two alleged tax “maneuvers” by Juventus, related to the fictitious inflation of the market prices of the first team players to obtain greater benefits in their subsequent sale, and the postponement of payments to players in the 2020 financial year, marked by the covid-19 pandemic, so the funds were not considered in the respective fiscal year.

Regarding the last point, the agreement with the players was signed in March 2000, assuming the temporary resignation of four months of salary, and, among them, will be the Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo, according to several Italian media reports.

The news reports that the Turin tax authority found, during searches carried out in October, a document in which Juventus promised to pay Ronaldo 19.8 million euros, exactly the amount corresponding to four months’ salary, in a ongoing investigation.

This Monday, and at the request of the Agnelli administration, it was indicated that the Juventus delegate adviser, Maurizio Arrivabene, will remain in office during the transition period of the new administration.

Andrea was the fourth Agnelli to preside over the club, after his grandfather Edoardo, his uncle Gianni and his father Umberto.

The other outgoing directors, besides Andrea and Nedved, are Laurence Debroux, Massimo Della Ragione, Katryn Fink, Daniela Marilungo, Francesco Roncaglio, Giorgio Tacchia and Suzanne Keywood.
