A fan invaded the field during the game against Portugal with a rainbow flag (a symbol of the LGBTI+ community) and messages asking for peace for Ukraine and respect for Iranian women.
The invasion took place at the beginning of the second half of the game with Uruguay, causing a break in the game. Despite the fact that the televised match for the second round of Group H did not show the fan running across the field, the images captured by the photographers present at the Lusail Iconic Stadium show that, in addition to the multicolored flag, the man in question was wearing a shirt with the Superman symbol with a written message – Save Ukraine (Red Ukraine) – on the front and another on the back with the text – Respect for Iranian whoman (Respect for Iranian women).
The fan eventually dropped the flag and it was the referee of the match… the Iranian Alireza Faghani who picked up the flag.
