Germany must win to reach the World Cup round of 16, Spain calmer

Spain, at the gates of qualifying, and Germany, forced to win, hope this Thursday to advance to the round of 16 of the 2022 World Cup, in a day in which Croatia and Belgium also count in another group.

In group E, the two world champions hope that history follows its natural course, with Spain (2010 champion) certain to qualify in the event of a win or draw, although even a defeat cannot leave them out.

If they lose to Japan, which is less likely, Spain will be eliminated if Costa Rica beats Germany, a scenario that would leave Costa Ricans and Japanese qualified.

A defeat for Spain combined with a draw for Costa Rica would leave both teams with four points, but would require a catastrophe from the Spanish in terms of goals conceded, when they have a much higher record.

Germany, champions in (1954, 1974, 1990 and 2014), is forced to beat Costa Rica and wait for Spain to beat Japan, while a German victory combined with a draw for the samurai will also force goal tallies marked and suffered.

At the start of the third day of group E, with matches at 7:00 p.m. (Lisbon time) Spain has four points -and the importance of an 8-1 goal difference-, Japan (2-2) and Costa Rica (1-7), both with three points, and Germany with one (2-3).

Canada says goodbye

A little earlier, starting at 3:00 p.m., group F came into action, with Croatia (four points), Morocco (four) and Belgium (three) in the race for eighth place, while Canada (zero), who face the Moroccans. away from the competition.

The Croats, runners-up in 2018, qualify if they win or draw with the Belgians, but defeat could even help if Canada beat Morocco, which would take the tally between Zlatko Dalic’s team and the Moroccans.

Morocco, on the other hand, qualifies with a win or a draw, while a loss means depending on the result of the other game. If Belgium wins, Morocco will have to tie the Croatians on goals as both would still have four points, but a Belgian defeat would keep the African team in front, even if they lose.
