Croatia and Belgium drew 0-0 on Thursday. With this result, the Belgians were removed from the World Cup and Croatia, world runners-up, moved on.
The Croats threatened in the first minute, through Ivan Perisic, who shot wide, and on fifteen minutes Belgian winger Yannick Ferreira Carrasco committed a penalty, but the decision was reversed by the VAR for offside.
Towards the end of the match, and already in the midst of the desperation of the last few minutes, Lukaku missed four clear goal chances, hitting the post in one of them – with an open goal – and failing at the top of the line in another. With this clean sheet, the Belgians scored just one goal in three games, the team’s worst record since 1930, when they had not scored a goal. However, with only two goals conceded, it becomes the best national defensive record in the league.
With this, Croatia scored five points, two less than Morocco, and Belgium was left out with four points.
